14-05-2008

Milla CERO, the promotional space for Alicante's hosting of the start of the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-2009, will offer in Valencia a large exhibition in the province of Alicante and the Region of Valencia and too will be travelling to each of the 11 ports that will be visited by the Volvo Ocean Race, the world's oldest and greatest round-the-world yacht race.
The mobile exhibition will promote the Region of Valencia on five continents and will demonstrate that, as well as hosting the start of this prestigious competition, Alicante is the perfect spot for tourism and for setting up business links.
The Volvo Ocean Race is scheduled to set sail from Alicante on 11th October, and will be the first time that the competition kicks off from a Mediterranean port.
This, the 10th Volvo Ocean Race, will be the longest in history, covering a total of 39,000 miles and visiting 11 ports. After setting out from Alicante, the crews will drop anchor at Cape Town (South Africa), Kochi (India), Singapore (Republic of Singapore), Qingdao (China), Río de Janeiro (Brazil), Boston (USA), Galway (Ireland), Gothenburg (Sweden), Stockholm (Sweden) and, finally, St Petersburg (Russia).
Seven teams have enrolled in the competition so far, with two from Spain Alicante 1 and Alicante 2, both of which are being managed by Castellón's Pedro Campos - two from Sweden (Ericsson Racing Teams 1 and 2), Puma Ocean Racing from the US, Team Russia and the Green Team from Ireland.
