More than 100 old photographs are now on exhibit at the Sala Municiapl de la Lonja del Pescado until March 23rd. The exhibit offers visitors the chance to know the history and evolution of the most important locations in town.

110 photographs taken by Spanish and foreign photographers since the year 1860 are now on exhibit at the Sala Municipal de la Lonja del Pescado, under the title Alicante en Blanco y Negro.

The exhibit invites us to know the urban and natural landscape of Alicante: beaches, neighborhoods, the Alicante port and plenty of locations of special meaning for the inhabitants of the town are displayed.

The arrival of the train in 1858, an increasing number of visitors began to arrive in the city. Amongst them, prestigious photographers such as Clifford, Laurent or Levy, and other artists such as Planchard or Esplugas.

Amongst the local photographers whose work is included in the exhibit are Francisco Pla, de Farach y Baroja, Carlos Nicora and Manuel Cantos, Alicante's most important photographer.

Alicante opens its doors to the past and lets visitors take a peek at the city's past through the eyes of experienced artists. Visit the 19th century, and contemplate the beauty of a city that still preserves the essence of yesterday.
