In Holy Week, this is the place to be

17-03-2008

A visit to the Region of Valencia in Holy Week is guaranteed to be a success: the beautiful coast and the mild temperatures make it a paradise for those who love water sports. Hundreds of kilometres of Mediterranean coastline ready for visitors to enjoy unforgettable holidays on the beaches of the Costa Blanca, Benidorm, Valencia and the Costa Azahar.

Golf lovers have their place here as well: the Region of Valencia is the perfect place to enjoy top-quality golf in an excellent climate all year round, with courses designed by the golfing world's most prestigious designers and champions.
A paradise for lovers of rural tourism, the region is a treasure house of twenty two Nature Parks and scores of tourist attractions that await you on unforgettably enjoyable trips along the coast and inland.
In addition, there are leisure activities for the whole family, major entertainment complexes such as the City of the Arts and Sciences, Terra Mítica, Terra Natura, Bioparc...and there's always a wide range of accommodation to suit all tastes.

To all of the above we can add the chance to take part in one of the religious traditions that is most deeply-rooted in Valencian popular consciousness: the Holy Week celebrations. Visitors will witness processions and other religious acts whose solemnity and deep cultural roots have led to many of them being officially declared fiestas of special interest to tourism. For example, the Santísimo Cristo de Difuntos y Ánimas procession on Holy Tuesday night and that of the Muerte de Cristo on Good Friday in Crevillent, or the Santo Entierro procession in Orihuela on Holy Saturday, the ancient celebrations in Alzira, the spectacular Holy Week in Sagunto, the Semana Santa Marinera processions in the city of Valencia, the Passion Plays in Borriol, the impressive Rompida in l'Alcora with hundreds of drummers playing at the same time...the list is endless. Not to be missed!
