Espais de Llum Burriana Vila-real Castellón 2008-09
17-11-2008
The parish church of El Salvador in Burriana, the Arciprestal Church of San Jaime in Vila-real and the Co-Cathedral of Santa María de la Asunción in Castellón de la Plana all shine with their unique inner light thanks to the 400 works of art they are housing as part of the exhibition Espais de Llum. A priceless artistic compendium that you can visit for ten months in these majestic buildings thanks to La Luz de las Imágenes Foundation. The different architectural atmospheres define the historical-artistic subject matter examined in each of these three buildings. The circuit takes a chronological look at the historical boundaries of the diocese of Tortosa, from the Christian conquest right up to the 1970s, when it was renamed the Bishopric of Segorbe-Castellón.
The first stop is the parish church of El Salvador in Burriana, founded by Jaume I; the first parish church to be built in this area after the Christian conquest. The itinerary then goes on to Vila-real, stretching from the Renaissance right into the Baroque. Finally, the modern architecture of the Co-Cathedral of Santa María de la Asunción in Castellón de la Plana provides the ideal setting for an exhibition showing the contemporary history of the diocese of Segorbe-Castellón, from the Enlightenment to the modern age.
