Reactivate!! At the EACC in Castellón

19-05-2008

Reactívate!! Espacios remodelados e intervenciones mínimas, blends two exhibitions organised by the Swiss Architecture Museum (SAM) in Basil. The exhibition  prepared by the Espai d' Art Contemporani de Castelló is part of the Castelló Cultural Project and consists of a series of recent projects originating in different cultural contexts and approaches the content in two ways. On the one hand, it shows how the minimum architectural design resources and strategies can be used to transform the most unexpected urban buildings and territories and make them apt for totally new uses.

Cutting-edge materials are not needed to create imaginative designs for problematic or underused spaces in towns and their outskirts. Frequently, the most precarious elements or a situation conditioned by budget deficiencies or problems of definition inspire the most innovative and dynamic designs.

The exhibition also associates itself  with the Situationist International movement and is based on the radical statements made by situationists about architecture and urban areas in the throes of transformation.

The projects making up the exhibition implicitly criticise town planning and architectural conventions in an attempt to renegotiate and adapt urban spaces and focus on the deficiencies of a totally planned and rationalised urban environments.
