Romería in Monforte del Cid

Monforte del Cid is getting ready to welcome one of the oldest and most traditional festivals in the province of Alicante - La Romería y Feria de San Pascual Bailón, which is held in Orito throughout May and reaches its peak on 17th and 18th May.

This is one of the most important pilgrimages in the Region of Valencia, due to the crowds that show their devotion during these days. The celebrations started in 1637 in Monforte del Cid and continue to be celebrated with the same passion over three centuries later.

Saturday 17th May is one of the most important days, as it sees multiple religious and festive events. Chief among these is the popular Fair in honour of San Pascual Bailón, with many attractions for children and youngsters, as well as numerous stalls offering traditional crafts, food and drink.

The activities planned include the inauguration of the recently-renovated Fuente Santa Fountain on Friday 16th May. New too is the I Encuentro Provincial de Rondallas (1st Provincial Serenade Festival), which will take place in the square in front of the Nuestra Señora de Orito Sanctuary at 8.30pm. San Pascual Bailón will be carried in procession to the Ermita de la Aparición hermitage on Sunday 18th May at seven in the evening.
