The Mediterranean lights up the Palau de les Arts

From 24th May to 1st July, the Festival del Mediterrani will be offering a wide range of shows in the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía de Valencia's four halls. The Main Hall, the Auditorium, the Master Hall and the Martín y Soler theatre will be the setting for a brilliant festival.

The festival has chosen light as the thread to bind together the different shows taking place up to July. Internationally famous artists such as Zubin Mehta, directors such as Chen Kaige and Francisco Negrín share top billing with La Fura dels Baus, the singers María Guleghina, Leonid Zakhozhaev and Bejun Mehta, amongst others.

The festival programme makes room for a wide range of performances for different tastes. In June Siegfried, the third part of Wagner's Tetralogy with Zubin Mehta and La Fura dels Baus. The zarzuela La Corte de Faraón will be directed by Francisco Negrín and the music will be the responsibility of Enrique García Asensio.

The Martín i Soler will welcome five symphonies and one more will take place in the Auditori. The festival programme also includes two Ballets with leading figures such as the Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta and the Roland Petit ballet, as well as performance by Nacho Duato and the National Dance Company.

La Fura dels Baus brings its own brand of theatre with Anell de Llum on the walkway at the main entrance to the Palau de les Arts. The performance is free and La Fura dels Baus will be using scenery from the productions of Das Rheingold and Die Walkre.

A season of films by Chen Kaige, an exhibition of photos by Lourdes Jiménez, conferences and round tables complete the festival programme. The Festival del Mediterrani closes on 1st July with a performance by the renowned Roland Petit Ballet.
