Pou i Safareig Plans Blancs

'Safareig' (Laundry), a precious word of Arab origin (ṣahrîǧ = pond) to indicate the place for washing clothes, with stone slabs and a central water reservoir. There were private wash places like the one we find in front of us and public wash places. The laundry room of Xaló, which is no longer here, would have been located on the right bank of the river, right next to the parish priest's garden.

It was the gathering place for women and a space for recreation time, in fact it was the place where the most gossip was done. A good example of what we mean is found in Valencian expressions such as"do 'safareig'"as a synonym for gossip or the expression "don't tell anyone, because people quickly do 'safareig'".
