The Día de la Vella (Day of the Old Lady) is celebrated by making the ‘old ladies', which are some dolls made to look like grandfathers and grandmothers carrying out various everyday activities. The ‘old ladies' are placed in the doorways of the houses together with a sign containing socially critical texts in a humorous vein. A contest is held on this day awarding a prize for the best ‘old lady' and the best ‘Sign', thus providing an incentive for the participation of the citizens.
