If you’re thinking about planning a trip to Daya Nueva, put the 15 May in your diary to combine your explorations with a traditional pilgrimage.

Located in La Vega Baja in the province of Alicante, Daya Nueva hosts an event in honour of San Isidro Labrador, patron saint of the Puebla de Rocamora district, every 15 May. To celebrate the saint, there is a traditional pilgrimage to the chapel, where an outdoor mass is held, followed by a community lunch.

The saint is carried on the pilgrims’ shoulders and followed by the rest of the crowd, some of whom wear traditional local dress. Musicians make up part of the crowd, using their instruments to create an incredible atmosphere. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the tradition and visit a new destination where you can explore the cuisine, customs and scenery of southern province of Alicante.
