Many destinations in southern province of Alicante celebrate the patron saint of farmers, San Isidro Labrador. Discover how Daya Vieja honours the saint.

Swept up in the agricultural land of southern province of Alicante, the peaceful village of Daya Vieja hosts a pilgrimage in honour of San Isidro Labrador. The event is usually held around the 15 May, the day of the saint and a lovely time of the year to visit, and shines the spotlight on the local scenery.

Pilgrims carry the image of the saint to an agricultural area known as El Marco. Here the day is spent cooking paella de conejo (paella with rabbit) and indulging in sweet treats such as almojábenas and brazo de gitano.
