Visit the Water Route of Chelva with the Family
Are you looking for a plan near Valencia for the whole family? The Water Route of Chelva is perfect.
If you like nature and active tourism, the Water Route of Chelva will make you fall in love. It is a short and lovely tour less than an hour from Valencia, which makes it pretty accessible from the capital with children any weekend.
Starting from the historic districts of Chelva, the Water Route reveals the hydrological legacy of the Tuéjar riverbank and a unique natural area. A spectacular tour that equally combines culture, history, and nature and will amaze the little ones. The Water Route of Chelva is circular and begins and ends at the Plaza Mayor.
Molino Puerto is a recreational area where you can park and also has a bar (in case you need to buy water or a snack for the road), playground, toilets and picnic tables. In winter, some of Molino Puerto facilities may be closed. Also, in Molino Puerto, you will find the remains of an old mill from the medieval period that was used until the middle of the 20th century.
Then, follow the indications "La Playeta", coming along the path next to the Chelva river. When you arrive, you will find waterfalls and a small sand area, one of the best swimming spaces in the Comunitat Valenciana. In summer, it is a perfect space to enjoy a good dip and have lunch while savouring nature with the little ones.
Afterwards, you will find some stairs that go up to the Olinches Pass, a tunnel about 100 meters long. The ceiling is low, and the tunnel is a little dark, so it is a good idea to bring a flashlight. For children, this tunnel will become an adventure. It is best to finish at the Olinches Dam.
Along the Water Route of Chelva you will find places with vast heritage to preserve, remains of old flour mills and Arab fullers. Undoubtedly, a walk full of architectural wonders that will surprise you.
When you return to the starting point, you may want to know a little more about the area. You can visit Chelva, one of the most beautiful towns in Valencia.
In total, if you walk the route with small children, it will take around an hour and a half, round trip, so it is an easy and fun excursion for a family. To walk the Chelva Water Route as a family, we recommend doing it from April to October, since it is when you will enjoy the scenery and pleasant weather the most. The path that runs along the route is well enabled and signposted.
