This fountain is similar to the Ángel fountain, which provided the local population with a supply of drinking water. It is mentioned as the Santa Maria Fountain en 1365. It used to be covered with a canopy, as shown by the existing Tuscan columns that are similar to the ones on the portico of the Agustinas church. A Gothic statue of the Virgin with the Infant Jesus is on top of the fountain.
