In naming Aielo de Malferit and Alzira Valencian Capitals of Culture, these sorts of events and activities will receive a boost, becoming the epicentre of the region’s bustling cultural life. Awarded annually, the title shines the spotlight on the destinations’ effort and commitment to utilise culture as a selling point and source of development.
The Valencian Capital of Culture recognition has coincided with the centenary of Alzira’s Gran Teatre, a great institution that has recently been renovated and is running an excellent theatre programme that offers visitors the opportunity to discover its history. For Aielo de Malferit, meanwhile, the title recognises the small town’s work in conserving and promoting its archaeological sites as well as Nino Bravo, the famous singer who was born in the municipality and has a museum dedicated to his life and work.
The recognition is well deserved in both municipalities. So why not check out the cultural sites and events that are on in the towns? You won’t want to miss any of it.
