The Castle of Santa Bárbara is back, and it’s time for you to experience it!
Discover the beautiful Castle of Santa Bárbara, one of many treasures hidden in the city of Alicante.
Calling all history lovers! The Castle of Santa Bárbara is reopening its doors, and it’s looking forward to once again captivating all who choose to explore it. As one of the icons of the city of Alicante, this historic site hovers over the city on Monte Benacantil (166 metres above sea level!) and offers unbeatable views of Alicante Bay.
To guarantee the health of all employees and visitors, new sanitation and safety rules have been implemented. Along those lines, it is now required for all visitors to the Castle of Santa Bárbara to reserve guided tours online, in advance! Guests can choose from one of four time slots, and all visitors will be allowed a maximum two-hour stay.
All guests are invited to access the castle through the Vázquez de Mella Street entrance only. A one-way itinerary has also been put in place, and certain parts of the castle are limited to small groups to avoid crowds. For now, all exhibition halls, the Postiguet Beach tunnel access point and the car park will remain closed.
This fortress is a valuable part of the historical and cultural heritage of the city of Alicante. While its origin dates back to the end of the 9th century, archaeological findings from the Bronze Age and the Roman period have been found as well—further proving the scope of history that Mediterranean culture represents.
If you visit Alicante with your family, we encourage you to see its coastline, taste its great food, breathe its fresh air, explore its natural landscapes and feel, firsthand, how history and tradition in the area have paved the way for culture and innovation. See you there!
