Holidays in Segorbe, pure spectacle
The calendar of municipalities in the Region of Valencia celebrating their festivities takes us to Segorbe. Extraordinary festivities declared of National Tourist Interest are waiting for you. Do you join us?
The Segorbe Patron Saint Festivities begin on the last Saturday of August. There are many acts of special mention as the Presentations of the Queens of the Festivals, the traditional and popular Offering to Our Lady of the Holy Cave, the Pilgrimage, the Racing Ribbons or the traditional Enramada. And, what would a village be like during its festivities without the magnificent firework castles and concerts of young, folkloric and classical music? It will difficult for us to choose!
Undoubtedly, the main festivity in Segorbe is the spectacular Entrada de Toros y Caballos (Bull and Horse Droving), declared Festival of International Tourist Interest and Masterpiece of Intangible Cultural Heritage. 13 horsemen, riding their horses and carrying of a thin brass stick, guide 6 bulls along Colón Street. They go at full speed, among the crowd that opens and closes the way of the herd similar to the movement of a bank of fishes creating an impossible space; and as a mirage, in hardly tenths of a second, this allows the magic of a unique world show to happen once again.
The Entry of Bulls and Horses of Segorbe takes place the second week of September, from Monday to Sunday, and it is always held at two o'clock in the afternoon. A particularly emotional moment is the return of the horsemen to the square de los Mesones, reversing the route, and the close clapping which accompanies the quiet ride back. It will give you the chills!
Segorbe keeps alive a rich handmade tradition, the well-known workshops of cane building and ceramics are to be mentioned. Some of the most interesting tourist spots are the Fuente de los 50 Caños, the Glorieta, the Paseo de Sopeña, the Oil Museum, the Crypts of the Cathedral, the Ethnological and Archaeological Museum, and of course, the Interpretation Center of the Entrance of Bulls and Horses.
