Igor Mitoraj exhibition in València
Gaze at a spectacular collection of Bronze sculptures whose classic and Renaissance style contrasts with the futuristic white architecture of Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències.
The Igor Mitoraj exhibition on display at Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències in València is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the cultural events of the year. Standing in the midst of futuristic buildings like Hemisfèric, Museu de les Ciències and Umbracle are giant bronze figures that evoke the work of great Greek and Roman artists.
Igor Mitoraj’s sculptures appear to be unfinished or broken, giving them an unexpectedly modern feel, which stands in stark contrast with the style of the pieces and the materials out of which they are made.
There are a total of fifteen sculptures on display at Ciutat de les Ciències. To find out where they are, make your way to an information panel situated close to the entrance of Museu de les Ciències.
The Polish sculptor has been featured in important exhibitions around the world, his work always prompting a response of surprise in the spectator. The myth of Icarus and Daedalus and other gods and heroes from classic mythology are transformed into elements of rupture in the exhibition, which is put together in partnership with Contini Art Gallery and Atelier Mitoraj.
The Igor Mitoraj exhibition will be on display until the 16 October. Don’t miss the opportunity to marvel at the immense size of the pieces and take some incredible photos. The display is also the perfect excuse to enjoy the shade of Umbracle, discover the magic of science at Museu de les Ciències and watch some incredible Imax or 3D films at Hemisfèric.
Slather yourself in sunscreen, pull on some comfortable shoes and take a wander through Jardín del Turia to gaze at spectacular sculptures by Igor Mitoraj. Start planning your trip to València city.
