Llíria wants to be declared Creative City of Music by UNESCO
Since the Franciscan Fray Antonio Albarracín founded the Banda Primitiva in 1819, the oldest civil band in Spain, the destiny of the city of Llíria has always been linked to music. The inhabitants of this Valencian population of 23,000 neighbours live music in all its forms and disciplines: from the Polyphonic Choir to the Youth Band, through the Youth Orchestra and its mythical Primitive Band.
With the help and support of different Valencian institutions, Llíria City Council has recently announced its candidacy to the award of Creative City of Music by UNESCO; reaffirming its great musical and educational heritage in this field, with international projection and with the capacity to generate excellent professionals, societies and musical events.
With this initiative, the capital of the Camp de Túria wants to become, "due to its historical, cultural, social and musical merits", the Creative City by Unesco. At present, only the city of Dénia Alicante has managed to sneak into the select group of Creative Cities in the category of Gastronomy.
A great milestone that would place Llíria among the privileged cities worldwide that have achieved it. Only 21, in the 5 continents, have this title. An important and unique title that has the support of the entire Region of Valencia. So far, the only Spanish representative with this award is Seville. Fingers crossed for Llíria to be the next to achieve it!
