Route Barranco del Infierno in the Vall de Laguar
The hiking route of the Vall de Laguar known as the Barranco del Infierno or the trekking cathedral is one of the most demanding routes in the Marina Alta. People from different places come here to conquer the steps of the Barranc de L'Infern. Only the strongest and brave get to enjoy the way.
The hiking path corresponds to the route PR-V 147. It has a length of 14.4 kilometres, and it is well signposted. The difficulty is high due to the unevenness of the mountains through which the route runs. During the route, you will climb and descend several times, many times over infinite steps. According to official documentation, it takes about 6 hours and 45 minutes. If you have a good background and you practise sports in your day to day, you can finish it in 5 hours.
You can start at Fleix or Benimaurell which are at 400m. From there descend to 200 meters, then climb up to 550 meters. This point is one of the most beautiful in the area, as you will pass through a large rock hole full of vegetation. There are some lovely wooden rails for you to follow the way. From here you can see the Ebro river nestled between majestic mountains. At this exact point, you are inside the Barranco del Infierno. Follow the path; you still have 70% of the route full of ups and downs through infernal steps. The views of the different ravines are wonderful.
The route is quite tricky, take enough water, sunscreen and a cap to protect you from the sun. The earlier you take the path, the better. It is also advisable to bring a piece of fruit or nuts to eat along the way.
