Visit Gandia Market and Gandia Food Market
Gandia is one of the cities most open to tourism in the entire Region of Valéncia. It has excellent beaches, rich gastronomy, a splendid heritage, and vibrant past. This city of the region of La Safor also has corners of specific interest for those who like to stroll and enjoy the small moments.
One of those places is the central Plaza del Prado, which houses the Municipal Market, a centre of traditional trade activity that receives daily the visit of dozens of residents and tourists. Located in the centre of Gandía, the Municipal Market rescues the local commerce with a dozen stalls arranged on an area of 1,000 square meters. A few months ago, the City Council conditioned one of the rooms of the Market as a multipurpose centre, which complements the leisure offer of the area.
The story of Ricard Camarena
From the Municipal Market, the traveller now moves to the Mercado de Abastos. This giant fish market is the primary source of fresh produce for large stores and retailers in La Safor area. The history of the Mercado de Abastos of Gandia has an illustrious client. Ricard Camarena, one of the most renowned chefs in Spain, began to love the best products as a child and, starting from Barx, he visited this emblematic place with his grandfather.
Gandia not only boasts of large fish markets. The Valencian municipality has several outdoor markets where locals and visitors come in search of the best bargain. Five are outstanding: the one located in the Center Històric on Saturdays; the one on the beach in Rosa del Vents on Sundays. Every summer day opens the Estival market on the Neptune walk, while on Tuesdays the Roís de Corella (opposite the old hospital) displays all its charms, and two days later, the Grau takes place (square of the Marina).
