If you want to visit Orxeta, read this short guide full of useful information about what to see and do.
Located in La Marina Baixa in the province of Alicante, Orxeta is a small village with great heritage and incredible natural landscapes. Come with us to discover just how much there is to see in a rural and natural tourism getaway amid the valleys and mountains.
What to do in Orxeta
To start, we recommend breathing in the panoramic views from Orxeta Castle, also known as Castellet dels Moros. The castle is an easy three-quarter of an hour of walk from the village and is well worth it to see the ruins of the fortress built between the 12th and 13th centuries. Once you’ve enjoyed the views, you can return to the centre where you can see an old 19th-century Wayside Cross.
One of the best things to see in Orxeta are the traditional houses populating plaza Ferrándiz, the lovely cemetery and Santo Tomás Chapel. 18th-century San Jaime Apóstol Parish Church is another point of interest as is the traditional wash house. In general, the entire Traditional Historic Centre of Orxeta will charm you.
A typical image of Orxeta is that of the bridge over the River Sella as well as the old flour mills which sit on the river’s banks. Make sure you also visit L'Arquet Aqueduct, in Partida del Teular, as well as El Plà Chapel.
In the area surrounding Orxeta, countless archaeological sites have been found dating to the Iberian, Roman, Muslim and other periods. They tell the story of how this land has been inhabited since ancient times. Embarking on short excursions into the beautiful mountains to see these sites is a great way to spend your time.
The natural surroundings of Orxeta are absolutely beautiful, beckoning you to go hiking and mountain biking – make sure you check out the PR-CV 353 route. So what do you say? Do you fancy coming to visit places like La Romera cave or Amadoiro reservoir, where there is a fantastic viewing point?
