What to see in Benigànim
A good way to start your exploration of Benigànim in La Vall d’Albaida is to take a stroll through the most historic district, La Illeta, with its narrow streets that date back to the 12th century. Along the way, look out for El Hospital del Cristo de la Sangre Church, an old church and mosque, as well as La Beata Inés and Virgen de los Desamparados Churches, which were built in the 17th century. You’ll also find the old Home of Charity.
The next stop on our tour of the historic heritage sites in Benigànim is San Miguel Arcángel Parish Church, a 17th-century place of worship built in the Mannerist style. It’s a building that will take you aback. You’ll also want to see La Virgen de las Nieves Chapel, the Town Hall, which sits in Plaza Mayor, the House of Culture (also known as Mansión de los Tudela) as well as La Purísima and Beata Inés Monastery.
By this point, you’re sure to be impressed by the rich historic heritage in Benigànim – and this is just the start.
A little outside the centre are the Stations of the Cross, which afford spectacular views over Benigànim. Make sure to visit the Former Franciscan Convent, just a 15 minute walk from the centre, which breathes the asceticism of the religious order. Nearby are San Antonio Abad and Nuestra Señora de Gracia Chapels, and an old ice house. Set some time aside to visit San Diego Chapel.
If you fancy doing some hiking in Benigànim, you’ll discover fascinating places like La Solana, which has archeological remains dating back to the third millennium BC. We also recommend walking the Fountains Trail and visiting the incredible El Tossal Ice House. Benigànim’s landscapes are populated with the ruins of old ice houses – they are wonderful sights to explore. So how about it? Fancy enjoying some rural tourism in Benigànim?
