Want to discover a different side of the Region of Valencia? Museo del Calzado will tell you all about the history of the region’s footwear industry.

We’ve all dreamt of being surrounded by pairs and pairs of shoes. Shoes of different sizes and colours. Shoes from different periods of time, different models and different constructions. Now you can make this dream a reality with a visit to a truly original museum that you won’t ever want to leave.

Museo del Calzado, the shoe museum, in Elda houses a vast collection of shoes and machinery used by the footwear industry in the Region of Valencia. The exhibit also displays an array of infographics, books and historic documents related to the world of shoes.

The mission of Museo del Calzado is to show the importance of the shoe sector in Medio Vinalopó county throughout its history, through its various collections and exhibitions.

Fundación Cultural Privada Museo del Calzado was therefore founded over twenty years ago with the firm goal of “preserving the arts of trade, as well as culture and history itself”. One of the biggest shoe museums in the world subsequently opened its doors.

Expanding over two floors, Museo del Calzado has four permanent exhibition spaces and a room for temporary exhibits. The permanent collection is divided into four sections, namely Shoes, Machinery, Tools and Bibliography.

Each of the sections comprise thematic collections such as: Shoes with History, which looks at the history of humanity through footwear; Shoes of the World, a discovery of footwear around the world; and Famous Shoes, a collection of shoes worn by celebrities from the worlds of sport, culture and art, such as Julio Iglesias, Antonio Gades, Rafa Nadal, Andrés Iniesta, Nieves Álvarez, the Duchess of Alba, Joseph-Napoléon Bonaparte and even Pope John XXIII.

The shoe museum in Elda is the perfect opportunity to delve right into the history of the Region of Valencia. The town will envelop you in its beautiful scenery where traditions and customs are still very much alive.
