El Concurs Internacional d’Allipebre de Catarroja, the Allipebre de Catarroja International Competition, lets you revel in the l'Albufera Natural Park and all its beguiling scenery. This time-honoured gastronomy contest revolves around an ancient recipe closely associated with this shimmering lake and its surrounding environment, as local amateur cooks strive to create their best version of this signature dish, using firewood.

The contest takes place in Puerto de Catarroja, a scenic habour framed by rice fields where you'll find scores of small boats typical of this area.

The recipe for allipebre de Catarroja is actually ver simply, and its main protagonist is the eel, a delicate and surprising fish whose aroma can be teased out with very few ingredients. Trust us, you'll love the contest... and the setting!
