Located in Huerta de Alicante, Monasterio de la Santísima Faz, La Santísima Faz Monastery, is a Baroque masterpiece defined by its elegant architecture and rich history. Completed between the years 1766 and 1785, and with subsequent additions in the 19th century, the monastery boasts an impressive façade that fuses austerity and ornamentation. The highlight of the site is the church, which is topped with three pinnacles, and the convent, which has its own entrance. Comprising three vertical sections, the church door is characterised by its intricate decoration, which contrasts with the smooth façades. Inside, the one nave has chapels under the buttresses, a straight apse and a crossing with a dome that is barely visible. The alcove behind the altar, designed for relics, is a focus point of this place of pilgrimage.

In the grounds stands Santa Faz Tower, which dates back to the 16th century. The tower has a rectangular plan with a truncated pyramid shape that is embellished with classicist and defence elements. Though it has undergone renovations, it still looks as it would have in the past. Breathing spirituality and boasting beautiful architecture, La Santísima Faz Monastery promises a unique experience in Alicante, a destination where history is palpable wherever you look. The monastery is also the destination of the yearly Santa Faz Pilgrimage, a Catholic tradition that sees over 260,000 pilgrims come together on the second Thursday after Maundy Thursday, which is known as La Peregrina.
