Teatro Principal de València, València’s Main Theatre, is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Its theatre stalls have borne witness to generations of theatre goers over the years. The building was initially built in the early 1800s, but only opened its doors to the public in 1832. Located very near the Town Hall and other notable landmarks such as El Marqués de Dos Aguas Palace - home to the National Ceramics Museum - the theatre is a great addition to your sightseeing tour of the city.
Its neoclassical façade features imposing Greek-style columns and sculptural details that echo the grandeur of Europe's great theatres. Inside, a marble foyer leads to an elegant auditorium adorned in Empire style, where a majestic chandelier illuminates the seats and boxes. The stage has hosted a rich array of performances, including operas, comedies, dramas and concerts, entertaining audiences for nearly two centuries.
The theatre is not just a performing arts venue, but a living symbol of Valencian theatrical tradition. Its unique blend of history and art continues to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. The constantly changing programme of shows always features something new. Check out what’s on and see which upcoming events you fancy seeing firsthand.
