Be amazed by the eclectic mix of architectural styles that define this magnificent cathedral and admire Alicante’s other historic buildings.

Concatedral de San Nicolás de Bari, San Nicolás de Bari Co-Cathedral, is located on a site in Alicante that holds centuries of history. Dating back to 1616, the building stands on top of the remains of an ancient mosque.

San Nicolás de Bari Co-Cathedral was built during the Herrerian Renaissance period. Defined by its austere design and minimal decoration, the architectural style gives the cathedral's exterior a sombre appearance. However, the inside features a stunning Valencian Gothic cloister that formed part of an earlier Medieval church, possessing a different style. To reach the cloister, you must walk through an impressive Baroque doorway; you’ll feel a sense of calm wash over you as you enter.

San Nicolás de Bari Co-Cathedral’s highly ornate Holy Communion chapel is truly special and a beautiful surviving example of the Spanish Baroque era.

Add this incredible place of worship to your itinerary when visiting Alicante and enjoy this great city where you’ll never be short of things to do.
