Located in El Comtat in the province of Alicante, Almudaina is a pretty place that is swept up in a landscape of cherry trees. Come to this rural, natural setting to while away the hours and soak up the peace and quiet. Start preparing your walking shoes and camera, and get ready to do some exploring.

What to see in Almudaina

Almohade Tower is Almudaina’s best-known monument. This defence structure, thought to have been built in the 12th century, was part of the old Muslim village or settlement. Don’t miss the opportunity to poke your head inside and take some photos.

Another point of interest in the centre of Almudaina is San Bartolomé Apóstol Parish Church, built in the late 16th century. The highlight of the place of worship is a wooden sculpture depicting Virgen del Rosario. Once you’ve wandered around the peaceful streets, we’d recommend walking up the Stations of the Cross to get to Santísimo Cristo del Socorro Chapel where you can enjoy spectacular views. Simply decorated, this small place of worship will win your heart.

The chapel is a trailhead for a beautiful hiking route that will immerse you in the beauty of Sierra de la Almudaina. You will walk amid terraces for just over an hour before you reach Alt de la Caseta. But before you reach the peak, you will find an old ice house which has a cherry tree growing inside. The sight is called Caseta de la Neu and sits next to the trail so you’re sure to find it.

The blossoming of the cherry trees and autumn, when all the leaves turn red, are the ideal time to take a walk around the mountains surrounding Almudaina. This convenient trail will give you the opportunity to explore other nearby municipalities where you can enjoy incredible views. Whether on foot, by bike, car or motorbike, you will find yourself gazing at Benimarfull, Benillup, Almudaina and Planes. You fancy it?
