San Salvador Chapel is one of those historic spots you simply can’t miss when in Calp.

Nestled in a peaceful setting, Ermita de San Salvador, San Salvador Chapel in Calp in the province of Alicante, is a lovely building that we highly recommend you visit. It sits in a picturesque spot. This chapel in Calp has one nave and a rectangular layout, with an interior divided into three sections by two pointed arches resting on sturdy stone pilasters.

First documented in 1745, San Salvador Chapel has witnessed centuries of traditions. One such tradition is the oil lamp sailors once lit on its façade to guide ships seeking shelter. This explains the presence of the olive tree, a symbol of oil, still standing at the entrance as a reminder of the chapel’s maritime heritage.

Restored in 1945, it has continued to host religious ceremonies, especially on the 6 August, the day of San Salvador, when it opens its doors for the celebrations. It’s a must-see on your list of things to see in Calp!

Come and discover this hidden gem, which has been lovingly preserved by the local residents of Calle la Ermita for generations. You’re sure to fall in love with its simplicity and rich history!
