The Rodeo Caves are a traditional complex of houses dug out of rock during the 18th and 20th Centuries. The technique used entailed digging the slopes in pieces of 2.5 - 5 metres high to allow the creation of different rooms. The dug out land was used to form a platform outside the cave which was used to plant vegetable gardens and helped the precarious family economy. The current renovation of the caves will result in the establishment of a large Municipal Underground Ecomuseum “Ecomuseo del Hábitat Subterráneo Municipal” (made up of 15 cave houses that nowdays have become handicraft workshops and exhibition halls) and a Crafts Market, both located in the renovated caves owned by the Rojales Town Council.
