Penyagolosa is a must-visit for lovers of the great outdoors. With a total surface area of 1,094.45 hectares, the natural park straddles the municipalities of Vistabella del Maestrat, Chodos and Villahermosa del Río.

Part of the Iberian System, the mountain peaks at 1,813m, earning itself the nickname ‘the top of the Region of Valencia’. From the summit, you can enjoy spectacular views over not only the province of Castellón but also neighbouring Aragón. The landscape comprises extensive woodland with countless black pines, Scots pines, Pyrenean oaks and other species.

Santuario de Sant Joan de Penyagolosa is one of the best-known sights in the park. The place of worship represents the culmination of pilgrimages starting in the surrounding towns and villages, from Les Useres to destinations in the province of Teruel. Beyond stopping off to visit the chapel, you simply have to get out and about exploring the trails, hills and elevations that generations of hikers have walked before you. Along the way, you’ll see golden eagles, Iberian ibex, shrews and butterflies. A natural wonderland.
