Whichever way you look, Vilafamés exudes beauty. Swept up in the almond and olive groves, this beautiful village is home to a gallery dedicated to contemporary art: Museu d’Art Contemporani Vicente Aguilera Cerni or MACVAC for short.
The gallery has a great story to tell. To start, it is housed in Palau del Batlle, a handsome example of 15th century civil Valencian Gothic architecture. MACVAC was founded in 1968 when Vicente Aguilera Cerni came to Vilafamés. He soon fell in love with the village and decided to set up a contemporary art gallery.

Museu d’Art Contemporani was one of the first dedicated to contemporary art in Spain. The gallery houses over 700 works of art, some of which are by renowned Spanish and international artists.
Many of the pieces on display in the gallery have either been donated or given on loan by the artists themselves. This pioneering management model means that the gallery does not purchase pieces, which results in a more dynamic collection.
