What to see in Alfarb
The first sight to visit on your tour around Alfarb is San Jaime Apóstol Parish Church, which dates back to the 18th century. Feel a sense of calm as you step inside and marvel at the ornate chapels, then take a stroll around Albar’s small historic centre, noting the traditional homes.
Right in the heart of the village, in plaza de Dalt, stand the Castle ruins. Admire the tower and a few remaining structures of a fortress with likely Roman origins, which took on much of its current form during the Islamic period.
Today, the site comprises a square tower and the remains of an ancient castle wall. Get in contact with the council to organise a visit, and once inside, you’ll find information panels and exhibits displayed that unveil the site’s ancient history.
Venture a little further outside Alfar for a walk and you’ll encounter delightful natural sites such as Barranco de la Falaguera. Part of Sierra de Aledua, this natural area is dotted with archaeological treasures including cave paintings, which can be reached on foot if you’re feeling up for a slightly taxing walk.
As you explore, you’ll encounter old fountains, traditional farmhouses, ancient dry-stone walls and even marine fossils. The flora here is unique, so get packing and visit Alfarb for a trip back in time along scenic country trails. Follow us on social media to discover more destinations like this one.
