On 15 August, Bétera is enveloped in the unmistakeable aroma of basil during the most important day of the town’s festivities, dedicated to La Mare de Déu d'Agost. Specially elected locals wearing colourful, floral and traditional attire, escort enormous basil plants through the streets. Your attention will be drawn to the cossieters, the people who carry the basil plants, or rather the alfàbegues in Valencian. The plants are given as an offering to La Mare de Déu d'Agost during the rodà, a delightful event that everyone gets stuck into. Don’t miss 'Festa de les Alfàbegues': music, incredible amounts of confetti and a whole lot of tradition await.
