El Templo y Dependencias de San Juan del Hospital, the Temple and Outbuildings of San Juan del Hospital in València, in its historical context, is one of the first Christian temples after the reconquest and one of the most beautiful in the city.
The church of San Juan del Hospital has its origins in the year 1238, and was built on land donated by James I himself. The complex included the temple itself, a hospital and a cemetery.
To enter you will cross a hallway with painted crosses of the 13th-century crusaders. Inside, you will be surprised by a courtyard with ceramic altarpieces of the Stations of the Cross that leads to the church. This is a Gothic temple with Romanesque influences with a single nave, side chapels and an elegant ribbed vault in the chancel.
The church and outbuildings of San Juan del Hospital can be visited, and you will be surprised to find remains of the city's Roman circus in the adjoining medieval cemetery. Not to be missed!
