Torre de San José, San José Tower on Tabarca Island, built in the year 1862, is one of the landmarks of this lovely islet floating off the Santa Pola coast. San José Tower was originally a military construction whose purpose was to defend and provide provisions for the troops. Over the course of history, however, it has had various incarnations, all of which connected to the army, until the present day. The building is currently used for academic and research purposes.

The tower is masonry-built and has three floors. Inside there is a central patio and bartizans. San José Tower and the lighthouse are two of the island’s landmarks that photography enthusiasts are going to love capturing on camera. With the sea in the background, you’re always going to get some incredible shots. How about taking a walk in the direction of the tower? Afterwards you can cool off with a dip in the sea, a marine area of great ecological value. Tabarca Island is an unforgettable destination: put it on your to-visit list now.
