Discover the fascinating historic heritage of Dénia and be blown away by the town’s landmarks such as the Castle and Walls.

Perched on top of a hill, Dénia’s Castle and Walls would have provided a vital strategic view of the sea and surrounding land. The fortress was built in the 11th century, and its walls and castle have undergone a number of changes over the years, primarily in the 13th, 16th, and 18th centuries.

The walls were built using tapia, an old rammed earth technique typical in the region. Originally, there would have been a moat and a road for patrolling. With the Christian Reconquista came big changes to Dénia’s Castle and Walls, where the urban centre the site defended so ferociously was relocated and more houses were built around it.

Climb up the hill to take a look at the remains of Dénia’s Castle and Walls while on what they call a 'ronda de las Murallas', a tour around the walls. You’ll be impressed by the grandeur of these historic remains. Start planning your trip to Dénia and get ready to be blown away by its incredible heritage, scenery, coves and beaches.
