Come and visit Benejúzar and take the time to marvel at the 19th century church.

In the heart of Vega Baja in the province of Alicante, you will find the municipality of Benejúzar, which sits at the foot of Sierra de Benejúzar. Wander the streets and before too long you will reach Plaza de España, which is home to Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, the parish church.

The church was built in 1831 and sits in beautiful surrounds, next to Ayuntamiento de Benejúzar. It has a rectangular plan and the entrance has two towers of different heights: Torre del Reloj, the clock tower, to the north; and Torre del Campanario, the bell tower, to the south. The place of worship was built following the Neoclassical trends of the time and the highlight of the interior is the colourful stained-glass window, which fortunately survived the Spanish Civil War.

Defined by its characteristic white walls, the parish church is the starting point of a yearly pilgrimage that ends at Santuario de la Virgen del Pilar, La Virgen del Pilar Shrine. The tradition is an important one to the locals who enjoy every step of the pilgrimage.

Come and visit this Site of Local Importance, which has been cared for by the locals and parishioners to keep it in the best condition possible. It is time to come and soak up Benejúzar’s local heritage. When you have been once, you’ll soon be back again.
