Discover a chapel in Benejúzar that everyone comes to visit.

Sitting in Sierra de Benejúzar is a chapel with a long history behind it: Ermita de la Hermandad del Pilar, La Hermandad del Pilar Chapel, which is also known as Santuario de la Virgen del Pilar, La Virgen del Pilar Shrine.

The chapel was built at the end of the Spanish Civil War in the year 1941. Interestingly, it was constructed in record time: just one week. Two years later, the new and final chapel was built, which became a shrine in 1980 to gain the Jubilee.

At the entrance you will see eleven steps, the door and a slab of fine cement, which are the only parts of the early chapel still standing.

La Virgen del Pilar Shrine is significant as it is the endpoint of El Pilar Pilgrimage, one of the most important events in Benejúzar. The pilgrimage started in the year 1939 and still takes place today: every year, thousands of locals and visitors start the walk at Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señor del Rosario, the parish church, ending up at the chapel, where they enjoy a day full of companionship and joy.

The shrine receives many visitors and pilgrims throughout the year. Be one of them and soak up the beautiful natural scenery. Benejúzar has plenty to offer.
