With more than eight decades of history behind it Pilar Festival in Benejúzar bring together cultural events, traditional music and the town’s well-known pilgrimage into the nearby hills.

The Fiestas y Romería en Honor a la Virgen del Pilar, Pilar Festival and Pilgrimage in honour of the Virgen del Pilar, take place every 12 October in Benejúzar, Alicante. With more than 80 years of history behind it, it's one of the town’s most standout and popular cultural traditions.

Things to see and do during Benejúzar’s Pilar Festival and Pilgrimage

The highlight is the pilgrimage itself, which covers almost two kilometres from the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Church in the town centre to the sanctuary in the Sierra de Benejúzar. Across the festivities Benejúzar lays on a varied cultural programme with concerts, serenades, traditional folklore performances and activities for children, so there is something for every age. The day around the sanctuary also has a strong social side, with people gathering outdoors in the hills to share the occasion in a setting shaped by both local history and tradition.
