What to see in Benijófar
Top of our ‘can’t miss’ list in Benijófar is the Santiago Apóstol Parish Church, which replaced the old church after it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1829. Inside, you’ll find preserved 17th- and 18th-century altars, as well as a lovingly preserved tabernacle.
Another man-made treasure is the Arab Waterwheel, sitting on the edge of town by the Segura River. This historic site, which also includes a mill and a weir, is a true time capsule, a perfect counterpart to the rustic scenery.
Speaking of which… how about a walking route to open up Benijófar’s stunning scenery? Well, the SL-CV 135 trail starts right in the town center and takes you through farmland to the El Secano recreation area, before leading on to the waterwheel.
You can also head over to La Cañada Marsá, a beautiful stretch of valenciano countryside with lakes, vegetation, and leisure spaces for sport and relaxation. You’ll find further paths linking to the orchards themselves, the Segura River, or nearby towns like Rojales and Guardamar del Segura. And if you want to really stretch your legs, you can use Benijófar as a starting-point to explore Las Lagunas de la Mata et Torrevieja, the natural park which sits just around the corner.
So, if you’re the type who loves exploring amid the tranquility of nature, this is your own personal idyll. Ready to come see it for yourself?
