The Desfile de Carrozas or Floats Parade in Dénia is one of the main events of the festivities honouring Santísima Sangre. Held on the final Saturday of the festivities, the parade is one of the most popular and highly anticipated events in the town. Music, comparsas, colour, joy and – of course – the floats take over the streets of Dénia, treating locals and visitors to a unique spectacle.
Known as “les Carrosses”, the parade dates back to the early 20th century when the “Batalla de las flores” (Battle of the Flowers) become part of the Summer Festivities. The parade was an immediate hit among the locals with its joyful atmosphere and creative floats.
Currently the eleven comisiones falleras (the organisations that create the Fallas in the traditional celebration of the same name) in the town are tasked with creating their floats, a process that takes months. The incredible decorations are placed on top of the floats and accompanied by members of the organisation, dressed up in incredible costumes. The parade is a wonderful occasion to immerse all the family in the culture and traditions of the Mediterranean.
