Come and discover a festival that's kept all its charm and invites you to join in.

The Festes d'Agost in La Nucia, in Alicante, La Nucía's August Festivities, are held from 14 to 18 August in honour of the Virgin of the Assumption and Saint Roch, and are one of the most eagerly awaited events of the summer.

The whole town takes part in groups known as penyas, which fill the streets with a festive and welcoming atmosphere. Unlike other nearby celebrations, these festivities are open to everyone, and both locals and visitors can join in the despertás (early morning wake-up calls), parades, flower offerings, concerts, costume parades and mascletás (firecracker displays).

The programme kicks off on the 14th with the ringing of bells and the queen's proclamation at the Town Hall, and continues with events closely linked to these August festivities, such as the entrà de penyes, the procession in honour of the patron saints, and the colourful parade with a costume contest and musical performances. On 18 August, a spectacular correfocs brings five days of joy and tradition to a close . Come and experience the festive spirit of La Nucía!
