If you like to be surprised by history, nature and water on your hikes, this is the trail for you. Start planning your trip to Millares.

Ruta del Barranco del Nacimiento, Barranco del Nacimiento Route in Millares, is a spectacular hiking trail defined by beautiful natural landscapes and a great surprise: a rock art site. Pull on your boots and get ready to walk the trail.

There are different variants of the trail: Barranco del Nacimiento Route is also a great place to go abseiling or canyoning (with all the right equipment and knowledge, of course). Make sure you check the forecast ahead of your day out to check for any weather that may cause water levels to rise. Safety comes first.

If you’re keen to go on a hike, you have two options. The first is the trail that starts by making its way down to the centre of Millares. You’ll walk close to the castle, which if you fancy a detour you can climb up to, or otherwise continue towards Salto del Monstruo, also known as Cascada del Monstruo, a spectacularly beautiful waterfall that you’ll love photographing.

This variant of the Barranco del Nacimiento Route is an intermediate level walk, but we’d always recommend you wear footwear and clothes that are appropriate for rocky terrain.

Keep walking until you see a signpost for Senda de Sansón, Sansón Trail, which you will follow until you reach a stone quarry. Climb up through this, taking steps up to the ruins of Molino de los Moros, Los Moros Mill, and up to the top of the waterfall. The views from here are spectacular. Next, follow the trail and enjoy stopping off at the different waterfalls, like Las Donas and Los Pinos, along the way. It will be a walk you’ll never forget.

The second option of the Barranco del Nacimiento Route in Millares ascends upstream until you reach a reservoir, Balsón de Arriba, where you can visit Cueva de La Lámpara, Lámpara Cave. Carved into a magical shape by water, the cave will have you reaching for your camera.

After a section through the old terraces of the agricultural land, you’ll reach Abrigo de los Chorradores, Los Chorradores Rock Shelter. Here you’ll see rock art depicting the collection of honey, a treasure that is thousands of years old. So what are you waiting for? Start planning your excursion to Millares today.
