El Recinto Amurallado, The Walled Enclosure of Cabanes, in Castellón, preserves the traces of centuries of history in a town strategically located between the historic Maestrazgo region and the coast.

Settled since Neolithic times, the town experienced significant commercial development from the Middle Ages onwards, which led to the construction and expansion of its defensive walls.

Although much of the former enclosure was gradually integrated into the urban fabric, distinctive elements can still be seen today, such as the Sitjar Gate, the remains of the San José Gate, and two towers with their machicolations—silent witnesses to the fortifications that surrounded the town until 1857.
