Thermal waters, old mines, a spa and walks steeped in history. Come and visit a part of the province of Castellón that has a lot to offer.

Located in the province of Castellón, La Vilavella is the perfect place for a getaway if you’re looking for thermal waters, monuments and hiking trails. This is a destination that has plenty of surprises up its sleeves. Fancy coming to explore with us?

What to do in La Vilavella

A good place to start your exploration of La Vilavella is the historic centre, starting at the parish church and then enjoying the streets and the façades. You can also stop off to take a look around an interesting museum dedicated to espadrilles artisans.

We recommend climbing up to the 10th-century Arab castle that overlooks the village. On your way, you will pass by the Stations of the Cross and the chapel, finding an incredible viewing point over the orange groves. The castle’s defence towers and cistern are still standing and make a great place for a walk.

If you are feeling strong, continue your walk leaving behind the ruins of the castle and following the GR-36, a fantastic trail that will take you from La Vilavella to Eslida. As you walk, you will be enveloped in beautiful landscapes, starting almost at sea level and gradually climbing the first foothills of Sierra de Espadán

Another option is to visit the Museum of the History of La Vilavella and Calda Fountain, which is also in the centre. The water here comes out of the earth at the steady temperature of 27°C. The Fountain is located at the 19th-century wash house, a meeting place which is still in use today. And don’t forget: La Vilavella even has its very own thermal spa.

If you have an adventurous spirit, you will be pleased to hear of the existence of La Cantera via ferrata, which is an intrepid way to enjoy the landscape. And then for all the family, there’s María Fernanda Mining Space, which is located in an old mine. It’s like visiting an open-air museum. So how about it? Start planning a getaway to La Vilavella and fall in love with its Mediterranean feel.
