The organisers of Media Maratón de Elche 2024, Elche Half Marathon, are busy making the final preparations ahead of the influx of runners and spectators that are keen to see what promises to be an incredible sports event. Elche is a destination with plenty to visit, such as the Palmeral, which has been listed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. On the 10 March, the streets will fill with an incredible atmosphere.
The beautiful streets and palm groves will turn into the route of Elche Half Marathon, a 21 kilometre race. Running alongside the event is a shorter 7km race, encouraging runners of all levels to take part. The latter is a perfect option if you haven’t had time to prepare for the long-distance event.
Elche Half Marathon dates all the way back to the year 1968. Every edition, the organisers have upheld the wonderful tradition of snaking the course through the centre, passing points of interest. They additionally put on all sorts of facilities and activities that will give the day a party atmosphere. Once you’ve run Elche Half Marathon once, you’re sure to want to run it again.
Elche Half Marathon is the perfect opportunity to explore the town’s incredible heritage. In the destination, UNESCO has not only protected the Palmeral, but also the Centre for Traditional Culture School Museum of Pusol for its collection focusing on local ethnography and customs, and Misteri d’Elx. You can learn about the latter at the Elche Festival Museum where you can see models, costumes and videos that will immerse you in this spectacularly beautiful musical drama.
Infused with an amazing atmosphere, Elche Half Marathon promises an incredible day out. Don’t miss it.
