What to do in Barxeta
Your plans in Barxeta should include comfortable footwear and a wish to go hiking. We suggest you explore the surrounding area. First of all, take a stroll through the streets of the small village centre, which are quiet and lined with single-storey houses.
Then we encourage you to visit Barxeta River Municipal Natural Park. This place is rich in heritage, with hydraulic structures such as the aqueducts of the Puig and Pantanet irrigation channels, the Acequia Madre irrigation channel and the Casas del Escribano Ravine. The Pantanet weir itself is another point of interest.
The Barxeta River does not usually dry up during the summer, so fascinating species thrive here. You can organise a great day out to enjoy with the whole family by coming bird watching and tracking other wildlife, such as fish and amphibians. This river is home to aquatic fauna like eels, catfish, barbel and madrilla, as well as a charming creature, our water turtle!
The PR-CV-396 hiking trail runs through this natural area in Barxeta. It follows a circular route of medium difficulty for about 11 kilometres. Another option is to go walking through the landscapes of the Sierra de la Corsa and Requena.
The valley, formed by the Barxeta River, has been home to various civilisations, each of which have left their own traces. There is the Roman Iberian settlement of Casa Perot and the Bronze Age walled city located in the area around Els Terrers and La Judía. To round off your visit to Barxeta, we encourage you to try its artisan cheeses. They’re delicious! You're sure to leave with a great taste in your mouth.
