Just a kilometre from the centre of Bocairent, Ermita de San Antonio Abad, San Antonio Abad Chapel (affectionately known as Sant Antoni del Porquet Chapel) sits amid landscapes that seem plucked from another era.
Built in the mid-15th century and originally dedicated to San Antonio and Santa Ana, this place of worship boasts a side portal in the early Gothic style, topped with a tiled altarpiece and a stone coat of arms. Next to the hermit’s house, San Antonio Abad Chapel, a Romanesque Pantocrator was discovered, and a reproduction can still be seen today.
Inside, 18th-century mural paintings and a rose window – whose light falls upon the saint’s face every 17 January at five o’clock in the afternoon – will turn your visit into a truly unique spectacle.
The walk to San Antonio Abad Chapel in Bocairent, passing En Ferris fountain, the old washhouse and the boundary cross, is an experience in itself, blending history, architecture and nature. A perfect spot to surrender to the timeless charm of this corner of the province of Valencia.
