Take a stroll through the centre and roam the natural landscapes of a municipality located in La Ribera Alta in the province of Valencia. Come and fall in love with Massalavés.

Located in the province of Valencia, Massalavés is a great place to visit if you are on the look-out for interesting hiking trails or strolls through an historic centre that breathes the Mediterranean. It’s time to start planning your getaway.

What to do in Massalavés

Like many municipalities in the Region of Valencia, Massalavés was originally an old Muslim community. Over time, the settlement grew and a castle was built around the old watchtower. The passing of time combined with modifications has left us today with a well-preserved monument – Massalavés Gate   which used to be the castle gate.

Another important sight is the public wash house, which has been fully restored and gives an insight into what life was like just a number of decades ago. It’s a very picturesque spot, so make sure you have your camera handy. You also won’t want to miss 16th century San Miguel church, which was built on an old mosque.

If you enjoy walking or cycling, you’re going to love the flat, lovely scenery and agricultural land around Massalavés. You can also walk or pedal to an area of natural beauty, which although is part of the municipality of Benimodo, is close to the centre of Massalavés. We are talking about the source of the river Verde, also known as “Ullals”, which is a collection of springs that form the tributary of the Júcar.

Importantly, Massalavés is well connected to València via a metro line. Before you leave, make sure you try one of the local rice dishes. The destination is also full of places where you can enjoy a traditional Valencian almuerzo, a second breakfast featuring hearty sandwiches that brings groups of friends and family together around the table. Don’t miss this part of the province of Valencia.
